Consiste di ben 4 CD e quasi 100 brani questa sorta di variegata (per non dire eccessivamente, e inevitabilmente, eterogenea) enciclopedia che la Rhino ha deciso di pubblicare per documentare l’esistenza di un “proper” indie-rock anche nel decennio da cui, nella memoria, sembra sia uscito nient’altro che synth-pop e new romantic. “Left of the Dial: Dispatches from the ’80s Underground”, in uscita il 4 Ottobre, è un mix di punk, new wave, college rock, e molto molto altro, e contiene anche interviste con personaggi di spicco – in ambito indie – dell’epoca, come i fondatori di label Greg Ginn (SST), Peter Jesperson (Twin/Tone), Tony Wilson (Factory Records), più il Steve Wynn, frontman dei Dream Syndicate.
